With less than a week to go until Australians find out the results of the postal survey on marriage equality, hundreds of ‘results parties‘ are being planned around the country.
The Equality Campaign is hosting Australia’s biggest event in Sydney and will feature live performances from leading entertainers.
The community event will commence at 9am, with the survey results live streamed from Canberra via large screens at 10am.
Journalist Patrick Abboud will host the event, with Magda Szubanski and Ian Thorpe. Leading marriage equality campaigners Alex Greenwich, Anna Brown, Kerryn Phelps, Clover Moore, Christine Forster, Tiernan Brady, Janine Middleton and Sally Rugg will also be there.
‘This will be one of the most important moments for our community, so it’s important that we come together to support each other and hopefully celebrate with each other too,’said Equality Campaign Co-Chair Alex Greenwich.
‘This has been a campaign of millions of conversations about real people’s lives. It’s about our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, colleagues, neighbours and teammates. It’s so important that we come together on the 15th to hear the results.
Events are being organised across Australia in other capital cities and regional centres.
A host of results after parties are happening from 5pm, including a massive street party in Melbourne.
